The world fell apart when Maisie was nine. Twelve years later, she and her dog Tahdi spend their days running outside the town walls to keep it safe from intruders. Love and romance are impractical wishes for her post-apocalyptic life.
On a seven-day, extended trail run she falls sick and is saved by a woman named Edison. Maisie’s town rules forbid interacting with outsiders, yet Maisie becomes attracted to this stranger. Unlike Maisie who has town allegiance, Edison lives alone in the woods and has a dark past. Maisie returns to her home town tasked with keeping her encounter with Edison a secret. Then the threat of a gang terrorizing the county puts her town on lock-down while Maisie’s heart yearns and her feet are on fire to run back to Edison.
